I had a similar problem. I was looking for my InfoArea by choosing Open and trying to locate from the Infoarea that pops-up in the resulting screen.
But, if one is creating a query for the first time, choose New-> choose Infoarea on the resulting window. This will enable to locate the Infoarea you have created .
